General introduction

Bonding Strength Test Fixture | Two Square Plate Compression Tensile Jig – UnitedTest

UnitedTest, professional manufacturer of universal testing machines and custom test fixtures, supplies standard two-square metal plate bonding strength test grips widely used for adhesive peel, compression shear, tensile bonding strength testing of rubber, plastic films, foam, composite materials, adhesive tapes, coatings, and bonded assemblies.

This double square flat plate bonding test jig consists of two parallel thick square metal pressing platens, precision stainless steel connecting mandrels, locking adjustment knobs, and base mounting flange, fully compatible with all UnitedTest universal tensile testing machines (UTM). The fixture clamps test samples between upper and lower square platens, applying vertical tensile or compressive load to measure the maximum bonding force, bonding shear strength, and adhesive failure load of bonded specimens.

Dual Square Metal Platens: Two thick solid square flat plates with smooth flat contact surfaces, uniform stress distribution to avoid local pressure concentration during bonding strength tensile tests; customizable platen sizes (25×25mm, 50×50mm, 100×100mm, 150×150mm) to fit different sample dimensions.

Stainless Steel Connecting Shaft Assembly: Polished chrome metal mandrel for top fixture connection, bottom mounting base with locking thumb knob for fast height adjustment and rigid fixation, no slippage under high tensile/compression load.

Standard Machine Mounting Flange: Bottom circular base with multiple bolt holes, directly installable on UTM lower crosshead; upper shaft fits standard load cell connection interfaces of material testing equipment.

Anti-Corrosion & High Rigidity: Platens adopt hardened black oxidized steel, connecting parts use 304 stainless steel, wear-resistant, long service life for long-term cyclic bonding strength testing.

Easy Sample Loading & Unloading: Adjustable gap between two square platens, quick lock knob simplifies specimen placement, improves laboratory test efficiency.

Our two-square plate bonding strength test grip is designed for tensile-direction bonding performance tests, compliant with global mainstream adhesive test standards:

This dual flat square plate fixture is designed for axial tensile/compression shear bonding strength testing, matching universal material testing machines (UTM).

Specimen mounting: Place bonded test samples evenly between the upper and lower independent square platens. The two platens have no intermediate connecting shaft, fully exposing the sample bonding interface to ensure pure vertical load transmission.

Load application: The UTM’s upper crosshead pulls upward while the lower base stays fixed, applying uniform vertical tensile force parallel to the sample bonding surface. If for compression shear test, the machine moves downward to generate shear load on the adhesive joint.

Data acquisition: The load cell continuously records real-time force and displacement until the bonding layer fails (adhesive separation, substrate fracture or cohesive failure inside glue).

Calculation:

Bonding tensile strength = Maximum failure load / Bond contact area

Shear bonding strength = Shear breaking force / Bond overlap area

Core advantage: Large parallel flat platens eliminate local stress concentration, ensuring evenly distributed force on the bonding surface to obtain accurate, repeatable test data compliant with international adhesive standards.

Standard

ASTM D897 Tensile Test of Adhesive Bonds

ASTM D897 prescribed a method for determining the comparative tensile properties of adhesive bonds in a standard specimen when tested under specific conditions. Its primary purpose was to measure the tensile strength of an adhesive bond between two rigid substrates (metal to metal).

ASTM D3354 Blocking load test for plastic film

ASTM D3354 Standard Test Method for Blocking Load of Plastic Film by the Parallel Plate Method

ASTM D3354 defines a parallel plate test to quantitatively measure blocking load—the unwanted adhesion force between stacked plastic film layers, reported in grams for a fixed 100 cm² contact area. Blocking refers to self-sticking of smooth film surfaces when air is fully excluded during rolling, storage or processing, worsened by heat and compression. The test only quantifies existing adhesion strength, not a material’s inherent tendency to develop blocking over time, with a maximum measurable load limit of 200g.

ISO 11502 Plastics Film and lamination blocking resistance test

ISO 11502 Standard — Plastics, Film and Sheeting – Determination of Blocking Resistance

ISO 11502 evaluates blocking resistance (the tendency of flexible plastic films/sheets to stick together when stacked under heat and pressure) and provides two independent test methods: qualitative Method A and quantitative Method B.
