EN-13230-2  Railway Concrete sleepers and bearers testing machine (fatigue, bending, Ultimate strength) , EN-13230-2 Railway applications - Track - Concrete sleepers and bearers - Part 2: Prestressed monoblock sleepers;

The test stipulated:

1. Non destructive testing (NDT):

Perform non-destructive testing on the completed welds to detect internal defects (such as pores, inclusions, lack of fusion) and surface defects (such as cracks). Usually, ultrasonic testing and other methods are used.

2. Mechanical performance test:

Tensile test: Evaluate the tensile strength of welded joints to ensure they meet standard requirements.

Hardness test: Measure the hardness distribution of the weld zone, heat affected zone, and base metal to evaluate the structural properties and whether there are areas that are too hard or too soft.

Bending test: Evaluate the plasticity and toughness of welded joints.

Static load test/crack resistance test: Verify the ability of the sleeper to not crack under the specified static load or meet specific crack resistance requirements.

Ultimate strength test/failure test: Test the maximum bearing capacity of the sleeper until failure to verify its safety reserve.

Fatigue test: Simulate the durability and fatigue resistance of rail sleepers under long-term repeated train loads.

The above-mentioned mechanical performance tests (static load, ultimate limit, fatigue) are conducted on the finished rail sleepers to comprehensively verify the effectiveness of the prestressing system and its transmission and protection status in concrete. Pre stress control and monitoring during the manufacturing process are also key requirements 3.

2, Concrete performance verification:

The mix design and compressive strength requirements of concrete usually refer to the general standards for concrete (such as EN 2065), and are verified through specimen testing during the production process of sleepers. The mechanical performance test of the finished rail sleeper also indirectly reflects the quality of the concrete.
