Information on the most widely used ASTM standards within the materials testing industry
Model: XQZ-20
XQZ-20 Methylene chloride tester/Dichloromethane soak testing machine is used to determine the resistance of unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U) pipes to dichloromethane (methylene chloride) at a specified temperature (DCMT).
The gelation of PVC is one of the most important product quality considerations as it has an influence on impact strength and resistance to internal pressure. There are various methods to determine the gelation level in PVC pipes and profiles; the most common one is to use Methylene chloride according to various standards. The tester complies with EN 580 method B, ISO 9852 and equivalent.
Application: For plastic pipes, pipe fittings, sheet material to be carried out thermostatic control under the temperature of 5℃~65℃ and dichloromethane soak test under 20℃.

Key Features
A piece of PVC-U pipe, of specified length, chamfered at one end to an angle dependent on its thickness, is immersed for (30 ± 1) min in dichloromethane, at a temperature T specified by the referring standard, to verify that the PVC-U is not attacked at that temperature. For safety reasons, the surface area of the dichloromethane is kept to the minimum and the dichloromethane is covered by a deep layer of water to reduce evaporation. After immersion in the dichloromethane, the test piece is held in the water layer to allow it to “drip” before final drying and inspection.
