Information on the most widely used ASTM standards within the materials testing industry
Model: VU-2D, motorized
Electric impact specimen U/V notching machine is a specialized specimen preparation device for metal Charpy pendulum impact tests. It is driven by a motor and lead screw, and uses forming cutting tools to cut a V-shaped or U-shaped notch in a single pass, meeting standards such as GB/T 229, ISO 148, ASTM E23, and EN 10045. It ensures consistency in notch size and shape and is a key auxiliary device in physical and chemical laboratories.
It is a supplemental equipment for impact test, used to broach the U or V notch for impact test specimen. Also name impact sample preparation machine, impact specimen notching machine, UV notching machine etc.,
General introduction
Electric impact specimen U/V notching machine is a specialized specimen preparation device for metal Charpy pendulum impact tests. It is driven by a motor and lead screw, and uses forming cutting tools to cut a V-shaped or U-shaped notch in a single pass, meeting standards such as GB/T 229, ISO 148, ASTM E23, and EN 10045. It ensures consistency in notch size and shape and is a key auxiliary device in physical and chemical laboratories.
It is a supplemental equipment for impact test, used to broach the U or V notch for impact test specimen. Also name impact sample preparation machine, impact specimen notching machine, UV notching machine etc.,
Key Features
* Easy operation, high efficiency, conform with ASTM E23, ISO148 or equal standard;
* VU-2D Electronic automatic operation. Two working stations.
* VU-1S Manual operation, one working station.
Principle: The motor drives the lead screw, which moves the broach vertically or horizontally to complete the notch in one stroke. The accuracy and consistency are much higher than turning and milling.
Structure: Workhead (double tool, double station, one V and one U), transmission (motor - lead screw), electrical control (stop at position, phase sequence protection), lubrication and cooling (gear pump, universal oil nozzle), and metal chip collection.
Core Function: Perform single-pass grooving (V/U notch) on 10×10×55 mm blanks with high pass rate, taking about 8–10 seconds per specimen; the broach is made of W18Cr4V, with a lifespan of approximately 20,000 pieces.
Usage: For metallurgical, boiler pressure vessel, automotive, shipbuilding, and mechanical manufacturing laboratories, providing standard specimens for impact testing machines to ensure accurate and comparable data.
GB/T 229-2007/2010,
ISO 148,
ASTM E23,
EN 10045.
Operating Procedures
Installation: Place on a level surface (≤5 mm/m²), ensure reliable grounding, connect to three-phase 380 V/50 Hz power, and add 46#/68# anti-wear hydraulic oil up to the midline of the oil level.
Start-up: Turn on the power, confirm the motor rotates clockwise; raise the tool, check lubrication and cooling.
Sample Loading: Use 10×10×55 mm blanks, position and clamp them, ensuring alignment with the broach.
Broaching: Press 'Cut', the machine will stop automatically when finished; release the fixture to remove the workpiece, and inspect the groove.
Shutdown: Raise the tool, turn off the power, clean iron filings and oil residue.
Safety Points
Must be grounded to prevent electric shock; confirm phase sequence before start-up to avoid reverse rotation.
Do not reach into the working area during broaching; in an emergency, press the emergency stop.
Regularly check the broach cutting edge; replace immediately if worn or chipped to avoid defective products.
Ensure sufficient lubrication to prevent wear of broach and guide rails.
Maintenance
Daily: Clean iron filings and oil residue, check lubrication and cooling, ensure clamping is secure.
Weekly: Inspect broach wear, tighten bolts, clean the filters.
Monthly: Check hydraulic oil level and cleanliness, replace if necessary; calibrate positioning and clamping accuracy.
Quarterly: Inspect electrical insulation and wiring, test protection functions.
Broach: Sharpen regularly, replace if wear exceeds limits; store spare tools properly.
Sample Quantity: For batch production, choose a double-blade, double-station setup for higher efficiency.
Notch Type: For V-shaped notches, primarily choose a V blade; for U-shaped notches, primarily choose a U blade; for mixed needs, choose a double blade.
Standards: Select the corresponding puller and positioning block according to GB/ISO/ASTM/EN standards.
Space: Confirm dimensions and load-bearing capacity, and reserve space for operation and maintenance.
