Information on the most widely used ASTM standards within the materials testing industry
Model: UT4153. EN 14157, EN 1338, EN 1342.
UT4153 steel Wide Wheel Abrasion Testing Machine is used to test the wear resistance of inorganic floor materials and unglazed tiles. It comes with two types of steel wheels, A and B, randomly equipped. By replacing the steel wheels and counterweights, it can easily achieve multiple functions, allowing wear tests on wall tiles, floor tiles, paving bricks, and other products of different sizes. This product has an attractive appearance, operates stably and reliably, and is easy to operate and maintain.
Conform with standard:
ISO 10545-6 Ceramic tiles Part 6: Determination of resistance to deep abrasion for unglazed tiles;
EN 14157 Natural stone test methods. Determination of the abrasion resistance;
EN 1342 Setts of natural stone for external paving; Clause 4.5 Abrasion resistance;
EN 1339 Concrete paving flags — Requirements and test methods; Clause 5.3.4 Abrasion resistance, Annex G.
EN 1338 Concrete paving blocks - Requirements and test methods; Clause 5.3.4 Abrasion resistance, Annex G.

Theory and test methods
A cycloidal pinwheel reducer is used, which has a large reduction ratio, compact structure, smooth transmission, and adjustable abrasive flow, effectively saving the amount of abrasive used. This testing machine reduces the steel wheel speed to 75 r/min through gear transmission. Compared to belt transmission, gear transmission provides smooth reduction without slipping. The rotation of the steel wheel is controlled by a time relay; the motor automatically stops when it reaches the preset time or the required test speed. This testing machine features a reasonable design, simple structure, attractive appearance, convenient operation, smooth rotation, and automatic stop upon reaching test requirements. It is mainly suitable for wear resistance testing of cement bricks.
Main features
This machine adopts an electromechanical integrated structure, consisting of a motor, reduction mechanism, specimen fixture, abrasive hopper, and a digital timer controller. It has advantages such as low operational noise, durability, and low power consumption.
The grinding wheel rotates at a constant speed. By applying pressure with weights, the specimen comes into contact with the friction steel wheel under a certain pressure. The abrasive flows into the grinding area at a specified flow rate, causing pits to form on the specimen surface under the action of the abrasive. By measuring the chord length of the pits on the specimen surface (accurate to 0.5 mm), the pit volume is calculated to indicate the degree of wear of the specimen. When using a wide grinding wheel, only the pit length is measured to evaluate its wear resistance. Each specimen is evaluated based on the average wear volume at two locations.

Standard
EN 14157 Natural stone test methods. Determination of the abrasion resistance
EN 14157 is a European standard specifying two test methods to measure the abrasion resistance of natural stones used for interior building flooring. It is the key reference for evaluating wear performance of stone floor materials in Europe.
