ISO 8510-2 Adhesives 180 degree peel test, ASTM D903 peeling test
ISO 8510-2 Adhesives — Peel test for a flexible-bonded-to-rigid test specimen assembly
Part 2: 180° peel
ISO 8510-2 specifies a 180° peel adhesion test for the determination, under specified conditions, of the peel resistance of a bonded assembly of two adherends where one adherend is flexible and the other is rigid. This standard is essential in industries such as packaging, medical devices, electronics, and adhesives, where strong and reliable adhesion is crucial. The test provides critical insights into the performance and durability of adhesives by measuring the force required to separate a flexible adherend from a rigid adherend under controlled conditions.
Test procedure:
1, Sample preparation: Cut adhesive samples of appropriate size according to the requirements of ISO 8510-2 standard, and ensure that the bonding surface is clean and free of contamination.
A bonded flexible-to-rigid assembly is prepared using the adhesive under evaluation.
The rigid adherend can be metal, plastic, wood, or rubber with specified thicknesses.
2, Sample bonding: Apply the adhesive sample evenly on the testing surface and ensure that the bonding surface is flat and firmly adhered.
3, Parameter setting: Set the appropriate testing speed and peeling angle on the UnitedTest Universal Testing Machine/tensile tester. The testing speed is usually set to 100mm/min, but can be adjusted according to the different characteristics of the adhesive and material.
The test continues until at least 125 mm of the bonded length has separated.
The peel force is recorded over 100 mm, excluding the first 25 mm.
4, Start testing: Install the sample onto the tester and start the device to begin peeling testing. The tester will automatically record the force values during the peeling process and display the force/displacement curve in real time.
5, Result analysis: After the test is completed, the system automatically generates a detailed test report, including key data such as maximum peeling force and force/displacement curve. Based on these data, the adhesion of the adhesive can be evaluated.
Test equipment: recommend UnitedTest WDW-5Y single column tensile testing machine, or WDW-10Y Dual columns universal testing machine.
