ISO 7686 Plastics pipes and fittings — Opacity — Test method

ISO 7686 principle consists in measuring the light flux passing through a test piece cut from a pipe or fitting as a percentage of the incident light flux on the test piece. The standard lays down the maximum acceptable limit for the light which may pass through the wall of the pipe or fitting, if the product standard specifies that they shall be opaque.

Pipe Opacity Testing: These tests are performed to determine the opacity of pipes and fittings. The pipes must meet ISO 7686:2005 standards that specifies a method for the determination of the opacity of plastics pipes and fitings. lt is an ideal device for pipe manufacturers, research and inspection institutions. 

UnitedTest UT2033 Opacity testing is a process of testing how opaque and also how transparent a particular substance is. Opacity testing can also be used to test the quality of Plastics Films.

Test Procedure , Troubleshooting

Test procedure: 


The specimen should be divided into 4 groups and placed horizontally on the specimen holder, and the convex surface of the pipe fitting should be parallel to the optical tube. The parallel light with a wavelength of 550±10 needs to be irradiated three times at different positions of the horizontal line at the highest point of the same graph on each specimen, and calculate the average value. After all 4 groups were tested, the maximum of the average value is the opaqueness.

Trouble Shooting: 

No respond of touchscreen and the tester.

Problem: Power is off

Solution: Plug in the power

Measurement error is out of range.

Problem: The specimen is not placed in the specimen holder properly

Solution:Replace the specimen correctly from the specimen chamber

Testing result is larger than expected or even display error.

Problem: Zero value is not correct

Solution: Reset the zero value as recommended

OtherSolution: Power off the tester and contact the after-sales service department
