EN 580 Plastics piping systems - Unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U) pipes - Test method for the resistance to dichloromethane at a specified temperature (DCMT)
EN 580 similar with ISO 9852, specifies a method for determining the resistance of unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U) pipes to dichloromethane at a specified temperature (DCMT). It is applicable to all PVC-U pipes, irrespective of their intended use.
Core test principles
The EN 580 standard specifies a method for determining the resistance of PVC-U pipes to methylene chloride at specified temperatures (DCMT). This method evaluates the plasticization uniformity and internal structural integrity of the pipe specimen by immersing the pipe specimen in methylene chloride solution and observing the degree of damage to the surface of the pipe after impregnation.
Key test parameters:
parameter | Technical requirements: | remark |
Test temperature | T±0.5℃(≥12℃) | Common 15°C, 20°C or 30°C |
Soaking time | 30±1 min | Strict control |
Sample preparation | Choose the chamfer angle according to the wall thickness (10°-30°) | Avoid mechanical heating |
Thickness of the water sealing layer | ≥20mm | Reduces reagent evaporation |
Dichloromethane resistance test Equipment configuration requirements
The test system must include the following key components:
Stainless steel/glass containers: equipped with double grids (dip bit/drip level)
Temperature control system: accuracy ± 0.5°C
Ventilation system: meets methylene chloride vapor threshold limit (TLV 100ppm)
Protective Gear: Includes gloves and goggles
