The split disk test method for testing the apparent hoop tensile strength of plastic pipes is a testing method specified by ASTM D2290 standards, which is used to determine the apparent hoop tensile strength of plastic or reinforced plastic pipes. 

This is evaluated through a split disk tensile test that assesses the mechanical properties of the pipeline under conditions close to actual use. 

Testing Principle

This method applies axial tensile loads to the pipeline using a separation disk testing fixture. By measuring the mechanical response of the pipeline during the tensile process, its apparent hoop tensile strength is determined. This test is suitable for reinforced thermoset resin pipes (such as polyethylene, polybutylene, etc.) and thermoplastic pipes, and can provide tensile strength data that closely resembles actual use conditions. 

Applicable Scope

Material Type: Applicable to most plastic pipes, including reinforced thermoset resin pipes and extruded thermoplastic pipes. 

Pipe Size: 

Procedure A is applicable to reinforced thermoset resin pipes (such as 4 inches and above); 

Procedure B is applicable to all thermoplastic pipes;

 Procedure C specifically targets thermoplastic pipes with a nominal diameter of 4.5 inches and above. 

Testing Features

By applying axial tensile load through the separation disk device, the force state of the pipeline in actual use is simulated. It can be used for research and development, quality control, and engineering acceptance, but caution should be taken when referencing test results in application scenarios with significantly different loading time scales.
